• Another great book on Oracle tuning! I had bought the older edition of the book and decided to buy the new edition based on my experience with the older edition. The newer edition is even better. It deals with the SQLT tool and how you can use it resolve tuning issues in your DB. The book starts off with a sample report of SQLT; it then talks about various topics related to tuning such as CBO environment, statistics, cursor sharing, etc. The author combines that knowledge along with SQLT tool and details how to use the tool for tuning sqls. I have installed and 'worked' on SQLT before, but I did not realize the tool has so many features! Even though i have been working on oracle for a while, there were still several things that I learned on the tuning topics.
  
  I was able to solve a problem of a nasty SQL running quickly in one env vs it taking too long in another environment. I would have taken lot longer to figure out the problem without this tool; I followed the steps in the book and was able to get the results quickly. I got lots of praise from the customers. I am sure SQLT will become more widely used in tuning and this book is a good go-to for for that topic.
  
  PS. Somewhere in the book the author mentions about writing a book on AWR. I would definitely like to see a book on AWR by the author if it is going to be as good as this one. I would also like to see an expanded ver of this book too with more examples and more details.
• This Book not only covers how to use the SQLTXPLAIN tool but dwells into the 12c optimizer features.
  I would recommend this book for any Oracle DBA, SQL developer.
